Definitions Newly diagnosed cases of laboratory confirmed acute hepatitis B (IgM positive). Data was extracted using "date entered" on cases from Health Protection teams data or "sample date" for cases from laboratory reports. The surveillance definition for acute hepatitis B is “HBsAg positive, anti-HBc IgM positive and abnormal liver function tests with a pattern consistent with acute viral hepatitis.”
